Abstract: Panoramic Mosaicing and Video Geo registration – Advanced Technologies  of Computer Vision


Panoramic Mosaicing and Video Geo registration are two advance technologies used for Surveillance and Reconnaissance of autonomous navigation vehicle.

Geo-registration is used for precise alignment of dynamic aerial videos with stored reference imagery for strategic applications like aerial mapping, precise location of target points and tracking, enhanced visualization, flight path correction etc. The key technical problem lies in the registration or scene matching of two dissimilar imagery viz., aerial video and reference imagery.

Panoramic Mosaicing is the technology of effectively increasing the field of view of the camera by combining multiple views to generate a mosaic of the terrain. The challenge in the construction of panoramic mosaic is the accurate registration of frames taking care of several factors like illumination of the environment, exposure variation, color transitions etc. Video mosaics may be used for improved scene matching, segmentation, aerial mapping, change detection etc.

The talk would describe in brief the various aspects of these two technologies, critical issues need to be solved for their successful deployment and work done by the author in these two problem areas.
